IBEW Local 11, LA NECA and the ETI were honored to host an epic event on April 20th, 2022. The first collaboration of its kind, the leaders in attendance met to discuss and sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for vehicle-to-everything (V2X) technology which includes bidirectional electric vehicles and a charging infrastructure that can send energy or services back to the grid, from your vehicle’s battery. V2X also includes the return of energy or services to a building, home, or load, such as a microgrid.
The MOU signed at this event establishes a collaboration between the government, labor, electric vehicle manufacturers, IBEW Local 11, LA NECA, and utilities to promote bidirectional EV proliferation in our state. Representatives from each group gathered to talk about California's path to bidirectional EVs and a greener footprint. Among those who spoke were Los Angeles NECA Executive Director Jim Willson and IBEW Local 11 Vice President Eric Brown, who spoke on behalf of Local 11 Business Manager Joël Barton. Additionally, vehicle manufacturers General Motors, Ford Motor Company, Lucid Motors, and Nissan participated in the event and will be instrumental in helping transform the future of both energy and transportation.
This partnership aims to enhance the growth and commercialization of vehicle-to-everything technologies by bringing together cutting-edge resources from the Department of Energy, National Laboratories, state and local governments, utilities, and private entities to overcome implementation challenges and barriers. The MOU's goal of adding bidirectional EVs will not only benefit the environment and solve power issues, but it will also provide excellent job opportunities for IBEW Local 11 members.
"The National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA), Los Angeles, is very pleased to be a part of this ground-breaking MOU and collaboration to accelerate the advancement of the vehicle to everything. NECA is committed to this effort and will provide a nationwide network of qualified contractors that partner with IBEW to ensure the most skilled and trained workforce available."
Jim Willson, Executive Director of Los Angeles NECA
